Our “Mescual” pumps are of local manufacture and are extremely robust. We recommend that all due consideration be given to the utilisation of the “Mascual” pump on all magma and massecuite duties as the pump, whilst a bit more expensive than opposition pumps, has a short payback period in terms of maintenance expense. Wear strips can be manufactured and replaced in the Mill Workshops as opposed to buying expensive spares for other makes of pumps.

The shaft is carried in outboard Baldor Dodge quick release bearings which make for easy and cheap maintenance of the pump whilst also ensuring that gland leakage is reduced to the minimum. (Shaft does not drop as bronze bushes wear) The quick release feature of the Baldor Dodge Plummer Block bearings ensures that the side covers can be accessed and removed with minimal down time as and when required.

The patented gland Purge arrangement, which is a new feature of the gland packed stuffing box, comprises a drain from the lantern ring to the suction port (low pressure zone) on the pump. Massecuite / magma that leaks into the lantern ring are hence sucked back into the pump suction port thus reducing problematic gland leakage. It is recommended that the vent pipes be heat traced or steam jacketed in order to stop the massecuite / magma from solidifying when the pump is offline.

Range of Pumps Available

Mascual 10 – Capacity 10 Litres per RPM – Max 35 RPM
Mascual 20 – Capacity 20 Litres per RPM – Max 35 RPM
Mascual 30 – Capacity 30 Litres per RPM – Max 35 RPM
Mascual 40 – Capacity 40 Litres per RPM – Under Design

Advantages Of “Mascual” Pumps

  • Pumps can be re-furbished as a very low cost when the need arises. Ie. Replacement of rotor tips, flap valve tips, and gland packing.
  • The pumps are designed for either right of left hand assembly. Handling of the pump can be altered by changing the rotor shaft end to end.
  • The pump rotor and flap valve are fitted with removable bronze, dovetailed wear tips, which can be manufactured in the mill workshops.
  • The flap valve is fitted on the delivery side, using the head of massecuite to keep the valve closed. This is assisted by a light spring for low head conditions and liquidation.
  • Model 10 & 20 pumps have standard nominal bore delivery and suction flanges. Models 30 and 40 both having rectangular suction and delivery flanges.
  • Ideal for all Massecuite, Magma and seed duties.
  • The patented gland Purge arrangement, which is a new design feature of the gland packed stuffing box, comprises run off drains from the lantern rings, in each stuffing box, to the suction port (low pressure zone) on the pump. Leakage into the lantern ring is sucked back into the pump suction port thus improving efficiency of sealing within the stuffing box.
  • Outboard pedestal mounted DODGE® Spherical Roller Plummer Block bearings support the shaft. This facilitates quick removal of the bearings in order to access side covers which can then be quickly removed in order to clear any blockages.

Considering these features; the lowest pump price is not always the best option. Maintenance costs and life span make for a quick payback of the initial purchase price, in comparison to the maintenance costs of other pump designs.
